Of the country's 4
municipalities Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq was the only one to
have a rising population also in 2014. In the other
municipalities, the population declined slightly, as shown in

The population count
in settlements continue to decrease. Only last year the
number declined from 7,678 to 7,470 people.

The figure below
shows the development of migration in the period 1993-2014.
On average, 400 more people moved from Greenland than to,
each year throughout the period. In 2014 a total of 2,148
people immigrated while 2,733 people emigrated. Net
emigration of 585 persons was significantly higher than the
average number of annual net emigrations since
1993.

After a sharp influx
of foreign citizens from 2008 to 2013, the number of foreign
nationals now only increases for persons who are nationals of
countries outside Europe and North America. In total 974
foreign nationals live in the country.
Based on a
preliminary calculation of the number live births and deaths
in 2014 the main figures of population trends in 2014 is
listed in summary table 4.
